Default Tuning Up Recently Inherited 1990 Corvette

I had posted a thread in general discussions about this 1990 Corvette with 70k original miles I just inherited. I have decided to keep it and play with it a bit. I just want to tune it up from scratch. Fluid changes, plugs, wires, air cleaner, etc. I haven't played with an HEI distributor since my first performance car when I was 17, a 1975 Camaro. I plan on changing the coil, module cap rotor wires etc. and my inclination is to simply use AC Delco stuff. I do remember however, switching to an Accel super coil on the Camaro and noticing a difference, also playing with the weight of the springs in the distributor. Is there a proven set up that is better than AC Delco? Or should I just put stock stuff back in? Also, I am looking at this cat back exhaust....seems economical and nice...any thoughts? Thanks http://www.jegs.com/i/Borla/157/140082/10002/-1

Also, any advice would be appreciated. Trying to keep it running well and fairly dependable.

Good idea to start from scratch on your tune up, that way you know when everything was done!

The new exhaust is a good idea, because your current mufflers are really a single outlet, one is a dummy!

Do a search on the forum, there are many comments on the different mufflers and drone.

I don't think you will get a big enough change with the different coil to mess with it. I would keep it stock, but just my opinion!

That was kind of my feeling...I have a 900hp Buick Grand National....and that is not near the fastest car in the world, so messing with possible quality concerns for less than 1hp on a 245hp car doesn't make sense. I just want to enjoy it for what it is.

No springs in the distributor spark advance is electronic.
Find the tan wire with black stripe & black connector @ the top of the brake booster. Unplug it then set the timing. 6 degrees is the factory setting some here run a few degrees more. Reconnect the black tan wire.

Stock exhaust chokes the engine your on the right track changing the mufflers suggest eliminating the pre cats.

Yeah thanks for the reply....the last I worked with the HEI was on that 1975 Camaro, as I said. I am sure it changed at least a little from 75 to 90 lol....I am so used to working on distributorless now. I will change the basic parts that I know could go, just to make it at least seem more reliable in my mind lol. I still don't see any opinions about that Borla S Type exhaust except for a few on c5s that seem to like them.

Also.....any preference on the spark plugs? I always use stock in the GN...would there be any point to using platinums? I think the stock ones ar AC Delco R45TS, I will look it up.
