Default Signal Light Steering Column Part

Hi all. I am having a problem in my steering column with my signal lights. I have had this problem years ago in the past. The signal lever does not engage the right signal light. It engages the left signal light but it can't be turned off once it is engaged without turning the steering wheel. I recall there being a metal part inside the steering colum that gives way and breaks over time. Does anyone know the gm part number for this part or where I can find a replacement? My contact at my local Chey dealership and I can't seem to identify it this time. Keep in mind we are much older than the last time this happened.

If your turn-signal lever is "firm" in the wiper/pivot combination switch and the wipers, and dimmer work correctly the metal arm that connect that switch/pivot is metal and "seldom" fails. If it failed you wouldn't be able to engage either direction. You likely have a failure of one of the turn signal springs in the turn-signal switch, the switch has failed or the cancelling cam is broken. These parts, the springs, cancelling cam and the turn signal switch are all readily available.

Cancelling cam (26047013), turn-signal switch (1995974), left spring (1964785), right spring (1964784). Your contact should be able to either hand you these parts or show you images.

The wiper/pivot assembly (26015119) is NLA but available new either in eBay or several other after-market suppliers, $80 maybe!

The only metal lever connector piece (26020396) is NLA but it's an unlikely failed part. Could it be? Yes!

In this image everything is shown except the cancelling cam. The lever is attached to the turn-signal switch with the two cross screws on the left, the springs I mentioned are visible one at top and the bottom is hidden I believe because the lever is in the right turn position. The cancelling cam drops right in the center over the coil spring you see followed by the lock plate:

Ok, I'm thinking 26020396. Is there a driver or pin that slides into that top slot in it that pushes up on it to engage the right signal? Thanks

There's a pin on the back-side that you can't see in the image in #2 but here's a couple snapshots for you. If you needed to use a salvage column the part fit many GM's. Your contact should be able to supply you with the list of them! Nearly all tilts with wiper on column through the '90s.

I just left the dealership. I had a old busted up column that has the part I need that is broken as well. It's the metal brace on the end of the wiper switch. Chevrolet loves that switch now. It's listed for over $300 bucks now. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I found it at RockAuto for a little over $140 for ACDelco.
