Hi there I've been driving around with code 22(off and on). After I finally cleaned up the connector again the light has been off but came on once a few days ago and went out again(code 22). Today nice 50 mile drive no light but my idle was up to 900 or so. So I tried to do idle set as in this forum and after I had to adjust up my throttle screw (to get 450 in neutral)I cannot get my tpi voltage under .79(need .54) even full twist low range. Did my tpi sensor finally give up the ghost? My car will not start now unless I adjust throttle up again. Unless I missed something? Should I start the idle setting process with the idle screw backed out all the way. I didn't see any step for that. Working on it tomorrow.
You don't want to back out the idle screw all the way or the engine won't keep running when you start it.
Take off the air cleaner accordion coupler and look in the front of the throttle body to see how far the throttle blades are open. If the gap is really large then you know you have done something wrong. I don't have an obvious way to tell how large the gap should be. It's pretty small ("pretty" and "small" are relative and arbitrary... ;-).
Well I adjusted the throttle body open about 1 millimeter and for some reason was able to set tps sensor to .55 today and started it and it idles fine . Weird.

It occurred to me after I posted that you could measure the gap with drill bits until you found one that would barely slip in between the throttle blades and the body.
Looking at the time (1:45 AM), I decided not to do that tonight (this morning?).

Yes but the TPS isn't going to help with that if the min idle speed is wrong. The ECM will do what it takes to compensate. I would clean all the passages for the IAC and remove the IAC housing, clean that and reset the min idle instead of what you did.
This time check with a scanner for IAC counts then set TPS. This is assuming you have no air leaks, timing is on, injectors are good and plugs are having a good flame.

Code 22 indicates low TPS voltage. For the code to set, the ECM has to see less than .1v for 4 seconds with the engine running.
I recently experienced the same issue. The code 22 was intermittent and was causing the engine to idle high. I replaced the TPS sensor and the problem was solved. If you replace it make sure to use an OEM sensor from AC Delco.
With the instructions jumper a/b, wait, set idle to 450 in drive ect. there is a thread somewhere I used but I found my air idle valve was very dirty and loose. That could not of been helping. Here it is
