My 89 's targa got a chip out of it. Due to the fact that a chip (3 " long, 1 1/2 " wide ) came off of it, I'm assuming it's the fiberglass top. Also, it's not that heavy.
It looked like the painted black top from the outside, but from the inside, it looked kinda bluish.
Now to the question, what years am I gonna have to look for another top? I heard that the early C4's fit differently. And what kind of a price range am I going to be looking at for a replacement ( new or used -- great shape) top?

i believe all 89-96 tops will fit
I just went through this on mine. 89 - 96 are the years that will fit yours. The cheapest place I found is Astrotops.com $450 + $50 shipping after you send them yours. About $800 if you don't send them a rebuildable one. If you can wait try looking on ebay you might get one for around $350 if your lucky.

If you can see through it, it is acrylic. The painted fiberglass tops have a black felt liner on the inside of them.
Check with your insurnace, perhaps the glass (acrylic) top will be covered? I got a new one for free when mine was cracked.

What are you planning to do with the damaged top?
I'm not sure. Is it of any use to anyone? I never thought about selling it.What are you planning to do with the damaged top?
Email me if you're interested, I'm sure we can work something out. I am going to Carlisle this year, so I could probably bring it down with me.
