and where does it go?

I know it goes inside my steering column someplace, it fell out when I had the column apart and I can't find it's home. If anybody knows where it goes I sure would like to know too.
Somewhat! It's actually not a release spring but it's the "lane change" detent. I changed the image I had posted to a correct switch image on eBay so you can see how the switch is assembled. Can you put it back? Never tried but it used to be a "service part"! If just the one end is broken it's a 1967685 GM spring but if it's the metal section that retains it you'll need a switch. You won't need eBay for a switch, the 1997984 is still available GM or ACD. I might actually have one NOS.

I thought I mentioned in my first post that you need to use the 2D image on the eBay and the "zoom" feature will let you see the assembly. I guess the "edit" didn't stick when I did it.
Well damn! I just got done replacing the ignition switch and the rack & rod assembly and adjusting them. First time I hit the key, no fuel pump. Turned it on again 5-6 times, nothing. Barely bumped the starter and it works like a charm. I guess I could try another relay but bumping the starter should have no effect on the relay. I would just say the he11 with it but if I don't find it there will be a ride on a roll back in my future.

Sounds Like it could be a wiring problem. Don the early c4s feed 12 to the starter and then back in to the rest of the car from there. Sorry, I had an 86 but its been a while.
This reminds me of a riddle.
I have to coins that equal 30 cents and one of them is not a quarter. What do I have?
A nickle and a quarter.. I said one was not a quarter... not both.

Don't give up your day job just yet......WW........
I've been too busy to test the relay but now that it has started to do it randomly I am going to attack it another way. Someone suggested putting the old relay back in so that is what I am going to do.
