i have an 85 coupe with TPI and my SES light ,with ign on, is flashing until i cross A and B at dia. terminal then it goes out. i've been chasing wiring all morning and still can not seem to find any problems. anyone aver run into this before ?
i talked to the guys at Street Performance here in Mena Ar(great guys by the way) told me to check all my grounds first. being solid suggestion i checked and cleaned all that i could remember and find.... still have the rapid flashing service engine light >< going to hook up scan tool tomorrow and see what it has to say. thanks for the info Seabright
i ran a scan on it this morning and got nothing, the scanner could not detect ECM. i replaced the ECM and the SES light flashed rapid for a minute and then became solid on. i started the motor and it sounded and felt much better but not right. i got i near operating temp and ran another scan, it read no codes present. after a bit more checking and testing i jumped the aldl and got code 12(diag mode) then code 51(faulty e-prom). going back out later to do more testing, just wanted to update my predicament.
YYou can find these EPROM's on ebay easily for under $100. Just make sure and get the right BCC (broadcast code) for your transmission. http://www.chevythunder.com/prom_bcc_1985.htm
On at least later years, steady flashing of the SES light is a signal for detonation / knock. That's destructive, and could be as simple as a shorted spark wire.
the eprom was fine, i had bent a tab down when installing. all is fine and appears to be running good again. the best i can determine is a bad connector to the cooling fan relay caused it to ground through the fan motor itself firing the solenoid and surging the ECM. at least i hope that was it
