The rear is easy enough to do and I will do it later this week. Who has done the front themselves and how hard was it? I have a quote from the local Big 10 that will change out the front wedges and 4 wheel alignment for about $150. All I will have to do is change out the rear bolts. Should I go this route?
Some one told me you can lower the front without using those wedges.
Involves cutting the tabs on the end and the two center rubber bumpers on the spring.
From what I understand you can lower without using the wedges which will result in it being lower. The wedges are to replace the tabs and rubber that you cut out. I don't know how low it would be without the wedges so I will opt to use the wedges so there is no wheel rub on the front. I just really want to get the rear down. I have no weight in the back with no muffs or spare and the rear sits up higher now than stock which is too high in my opinion.
Thanks for the compliment HardCorvette. Try to keep it nice. Its tough as its a daily driver and lives outside. My townhouse doesn't have a garage. The wedges give no appreciable lift and prevent damage to the spring. Without them it would be 1/4 inch lower. And the weight in back shouldn't affect the front ride height to much. I'd put them in when you change the height.
Cone KLR Is right! But it's so easy to do! Infact, the hardest thing to do is to cut the rubber off the spring.. that stuff on there is tuff!! Unbolt the outer tie rod & sway bar, on both sides, losen the spring retainers which is holding the leaf spring to the frame of the car. On either side that you what to start on first, get a block of wood ( 2 by 4 ) and a small floor jack will be fine, put the wood along with the jack under the spring closest to the a-arm, with out it being ON the a-arm it's self and slowly jack the spring up untill it's not resting on the lower a-arm ( about a 1/4 to an 1/2 inch off ) Disconect the ABS sensor thats located on the brake assembly, thats very important for you to do so!! ( if yours has one) remove the 2 bolts that are holding the shocks to the lower a-arm (they're located near the spring in the lower a-arm), unbolt the lower ball joint stud nut, you can use a two jaw puller or what I did was unscrew the nut untill it covered the end of the stud and with a hammer, tap on the top of the nut and not that hard or you'll ruin either the nut it's self or the stud or both. (try using a hard rubber mallet first) Before doing this, find something to put under the wheel hub.. another block of wood would be fine just to stabilize it and it should come free with no problem!! repeat this on the other side and let the presure off from the 2 by 4 and jack free and you should be able to slide the spring out from either side after you pull back at the wheel hub away little, the spring will slide out from the lower a-arm. It will not come out all the way if the car is not jacked up high enough and it does not have to!! you just need to be able to slide the spring far enough to be able to reach the rubber mounts. With a steak knife or I prefered a hack saw blade, saw off the rubber mounts and try not to cut into the spring it's self... take your time, don't rush!!. do this on both sides. this will give you the drop that your, I think looking for!!! The wheels will be, depending on what size rims you've got, if your running stock 17's will be about an 1 inch to an 1 1/4 from the fender wells, and NO!! THEY WILL NOT RUB!! You will have to of course hopefully with out saying, take the wheels off to do this job, and the ride is fine, just a little more stiff, and I do mean, A LITTLE!! e-Mail me at zolarcomics@hotmail.com and I'll e-mail you back some pictures of my car, so you can see how low this will make your car!! I hope this helps Aloha!!  :seeya
Yes it is! BUT! Remember this, if it's not low enough for you, then your going to have to do the whole taking apart thing again! My sug. is that go ahead and cut off the whole rubber thing'y, and then cut that piece in half and reinstall it back in, that way if it's not low enough for you, then all you have to do to get it lower is jack up the car, losen the spring retainer bolts and slide the remainder of the rubber piece out!! simple as that!! IMPORTANT NOTE!! if or when you cut the two rubber pieces in half, MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE AS EVEN TO EACH OTHER AS POSSIBLE!!! if they'er not even, the car will totally be uneven in it's stance, and this will drive you, and me (if I saw it) BATTY!!! So compare the two before you reinstall them back in after they're cut in half. hope this help's!! Aloha from the 50th state!! the "Double Clutch". P.S. If you want picture's, e-mail me at zolarcomics@hotmail.com and I'll show you how low your car can go. :seeya
