I'm going to have a 100 shot of nitrous added soon, I've got an msd 6a ignition, but I'd also like to take about 2 degrees of timing out jsut to be safe? Would it be feasable for me (I rarely work on cars, but know alot about the lt1 engine and stuff).....to take out the timing myself? Or should I just have a mechanic do it? Would it be expensive for the mechanic to do that?
You can't "take timing out" with an LT1, at least not physically.
You can remove timing from the spark tables through reflashing your computer, but its not something you want to have done all of the time. I would think you only want to retard the timing when you're running the nitrous.
I have no idea how nitrous systems work, but I would look into a Nitrous Mastermind system from Jacob's Electronics. http://www.jacobselectronics.com Or MSD hs timing retard applications as well.
