I have the Fx3 shocks on my 1992 and my rear shocks are shot. I want to replace them ASAP because we have limited time left before the car goes into winter storage. My problem is, I cant find a good set to get me through the fall. I am planning on replacing the fx3 with coil overs this winter and I would like to know if I can just buy a set of kybs or something and use them through the rest of the year? Is there any issues with mounting? I am not sure if the billsteens are mounted the same as a standard shock? I am sure some of you have done this and I would like to know before I go out and rip my shocks out.
the diameter of the cylinder is different between the fx3 and standard shock, the fx3 being larger. bushings are different and I believe the top mount bracket has a different diameter hole for each. a single position should would mount up if you got the correct top shock mount.
If you are going to coil overs you might just live with what you got until you do the coilovers as that sounds like it will only be a month or two of driving.

Thanks sleezy.
And I might. My back shocks are totally shot tho. I hate to do a lot of driving with them like that.
The KYB's are a direct fit in place of the FX3's. The only issue I encountered was that the rubber bushing in the inside if the frame rail was so swollen that I had to drill rubber material out of it before I could pull the shock out.

Do you have a part number for the kybs you used? Also did you replace all 4 shocks?
There's no modifications done to the car for the FX3 at BG - if you buy correct shocks regardless of brand and use all of the appropriate hardware you'll be fine. If your FX3 is operational you might just consider a rebuild of them - if the actuators are non-functional and your doing coil-overs you'll need to think it through.
FX3 hardware is different but it's only required when the FX3 is installed.

Ok thats what I was wondering. The fx3 system on my car is functional but ther rears are completely shot.
I planned on swapping to coilovers but I may just send them in for a rebuild. I may just throw some kybs on to drive the car the remainder of the year.
