Default Stereo compatibility?

I have a parts 94 car that has a nice factory stereo in it with the amp in the back storage compartment.

Can this system be moved to my 92 convertible without too much hassle?

I think what you are seeing in the rear compartment is the radio receiver. On the '92, the radio receiver is located behind and above the passenger side kick panel. I think GM moved the radio receiver in '93.

Each speaker has its own amp; the unit in the dash is just a head unit.

So would the system out of the 94 go into the 92 with a minimum of hassle? I don't want to rewire everything to get it to work

If both are Bose I believe the only change is the color of the buttons on the bezel face. They would both need to be Bose I believe or both would have to be the base systems. I don't know that you can mix Bose with non-Bose car or the other way around.

I believe it is either Bose or nothing. Supposedly there WAS an adapter made but they don't make them anymore that allowed you to use non-Bose speakers. I did toss everything out and left the wring since I was going to rewire.

OK I got most of it to work already.

The CDM on the 92 is under thd dash and is a bitch to swap. The 94 is in the hatch and much easier to access.

Last concern I have deals with the speaker amps that are marked conv and coupe. I wonder how much different the sound will be.

Got everything working and it sounds good enough for me. I'm using the hatch the amps and will probably leave it until it quits.
