Wow that was short. Lol. Good thing Ch@0s documented his so well. I just got a phone call today, and my tranny is done! To the tune of $1700, but swears its good for 600hp. So the first piece of my swap is in place.

Let us know how it runs. What tranny, and converter are you running? h

I have the exhaust just about complete. The exhaust was in place, and was tact welded in place. I pulled the pipe down so my son could fully weld it today, but it's raining here in Jersey today, and we're working on the car outside.

I rebuild a 90 vette 4L60 transmission last year, myself, I have a TQ converter build for it, but ended up having surgery when I have planned on put it in the car. The converter should stall about 2600-2800 RPM.

The engine surprized me that it wasn't very loud with open exhaust. My son's car is just as loud with full exhaust, but I built a good SBC for him. I pulled the GM847 out my vette and stick it in his engine. The engine that came out of my vette is a better build (forged internal and slighty ported heads) I just got tired of the ECM OBD1, I also have a Accel gen 6 ECM which I did'nt care for either. Those old ECM sucks and a smart phone have more ability then those old ECM.

I have a issue with the windshield wiper motor that is too close to valve cover, and I had to cut the heater box a little, because of # 8 coil was too close also.
Thanks again Ch@0s and CF, it made this project a breeze.

I went with the 22-2600 stall. (gonna give it a 50 shot of nos, under full throttle, and that should get rid of any hesitation) I am trying to build a bit of a sleeper though. Im glad to hear it so quiet, that should also add to my sleeper theme too.

That sucks about the wiper motor, considering I just replaced mine! Doh! Im thinking about removing the heater box all together, and going with a vintage air system.

Like I said before let us know how it drives I really want to know what kinda improvement Im in for! h

Ps; Just got back from picking up my tranny! He painted it though, so I will have to strip it, so I can polish it. Peace

Randy, could you tell us how much of the LQ4 you used, ie, oil pan, accessory drive, etc. I see you used the motor mounts by vette aide but was wondering what else you needed to outsource. Thanks for your time showing your conversion.

I had to use F-body oil pan, water pump, intake, and wiring harness and I brought a Holley acc. bracket. I used the truck ign. coils. The parts I changed had clearance issue in a C4.

just the alternator, the Holley bracket is made for that alternator. The C5 alt. are different I also changed the Harmonic balancer, which will not work on the C4

That was the reason I went with the C5 accessories. the alternator would have hit the steering.

Randy, are you going to try and get to the track this year for a baseline run? I sure do look forward to hearing your numbers.

I'm going to the track as soon as I can. ( LOL ) I'm going to drive it to work one or two days, to make sure there's no leaks. I'm curious, to see what it will run stock. By the spring it will have a H/C package. I want it to run low 11s and drive it. I'm thinking about doing a turbo for it. It has cast iron heads with 9.5 compression, perfect for forced air.

I forgot to mention that I used a C5 power steering setup. All of the accessories drive is made for a C4 vette conversion.

The car is still on jack stands which makes it easy to work on (no bending down)but I'm going to let it down this weekend, and take it around the block, and then down the freeway.

I drove the car, around a little. I need to find a way to make the VSS, work. I have a 4L60 in the car, the speedometer works, but I need away to let the engine know how fast the car is going. I'm going to try and use the ABS sensor

I used a 96 VSS and fed it to the LS PCM then out to my speedo from the "out" on the PCM.

Are you talking making it work, or make it work correctly?

I think most guys are using the Dakota Digital setup. h

Will the 96 VSS not work on the early cars?
