power shifting is when you shift gears without allowing the rpm's to drop back down again. in other words you keep the throttle pinned as you row through the gears. hope this helps!
It's something I miss DEARLY! I loved doing it in my mid 11 second mustang gt. Unfortunately, 3 clutches 2 trannies a motor and a rear later I sold it :D
Yep... what everyone else said.
It is worth up to .5 in the quarter mile, but I'm not sure I can see how it is OK if done right?? Can you help me with that one Scorp?

so you still pulled your left leg up but left the right (accelerator) on the floor.
I've worn on my clutch quite a bit by learning to drive a stick with this car, and I'd rather not replace a clutch any time soon - so I'll leave the power shifting to you pros (until I get involved in a race I really want to win - so a couple days and I'll be power shifting like a madman)
most of my friends think that power shifting doesnt wear their clutches prematurely at all, because they dont shift quite as much. Still i wouldnt do it until youre good at finessing the clutch.

Powershifting is most abusive to a car if you are sloppy on the shift or are trying it at a lousy shiftpoint. If you are fast & smooth with the motion then there should be little or no harm done to the synchros and clutch. It is the person who shifts lazily and allows the engine RPM to scream upwards that busts things up. :)
GM tests our drivetrains before they go to production. They do something crazy like 100 long passes with all full throttle shifts to make sure it holds up without ill effects.
Mr Mojo, Allright !!! Love it :D :yesnod: :yesnod:
I am agreeing with everyone who says when its done right, it doesn't hurt a thing. I've power shifted the vette many times. It is easier to do now that I have the B&M Ripper installed.
I also have a 1968 SS396 Camaro (now with a 454) that I have power shifted way more than a few times both with the 396 and the 454. I am still running the original transmission and rear end! I did shatter a relativly new universal joint once (the bearing cup to be exact). In the Camaro I can sidestep the clutch, I can't do that in the vette.
Frank, your rpm needle seems really really loose to me. Might wanna have that looked at when you get the time. My fuel cutoff is right where GM says it is on my tach, hmmmm. Oh well, your the one with the fast times right, hehehe.
I had a 'NERVOUS' or jumpy tach(I think it's a '90 thing) I just replaced it with an auto meter 2302 with mini-shift lite. It works well.
Frank is an awesome shifter! I've seen Him at the track, and it sounds TEXTBOOK every single time. He's not ashamed of beating the poor car in to the ground either :D
