There is a small switch on the top left corner of my center console just under the HVAC control that has three positions, off, on and momentary. It doesn't seem to do anything, I've been switching it on and off for a year as I drive to try to get something to respond to it, It's not a light thing, I thought it maight have something to do with the transmission or the torque converter, but it dosen't seem to do anything. The car is a 1987 coupe, automatic, Z-52, basically stock except for KBD SS pipes and this switch. Any guesses as to what this does, my next step is to pull the cover and follow the wires.
It's an early 1987, the switch is located in a position that when you rest your arm on the console, the switch ends up right under your finger, that's why I felt it may have something to do with the tranny or TC. I have to think the location was intentional. I like the machine gun idea.
Definitely an addition by a previous owner. Can you trace the wires to anything.
Turn the ignition to "on", but do not start the car. Open the hood and see if the cooling fans turn on with the switch in any certain position. Being a 3 position switch I would most assume it would be for your fans if you have both the auxilary one and main one.
I once installed a similar switch in another car I owned. I wired it to the brake lights. Whenever a tailgater got behind me, I kept switching the brake lights on until they backed off. Your switch isn't doing something like this is it?
I tried the cooling fans and the brake lights, not that, thanks for the suggestions I'm going to trace the wires and see what I can find. I didn't mention the car has a Clifford alarm system.
I have a clifford alarm and the switch I have does what you mentioned. "Three position - Center, latched and momentery". The switch on mine is to enter the codes for alarm functions (valet, anti-carjacking, lights, horn etc.) yours is proabably bypassed. I have the 900 I.Q. Hope this helps
