I picked up a 84' a few weeks back and one of the things that I noticed is it has a covertible rear bumper with a third brake light on it. Now I know from my 86' that there is some sort of controler that works the third brake light (so as not to blink with the turn signals). What do I need to hook up that light? Thanks, Joe
Since you don't have ABS and your only looking for functionality you can use this diode to accomplish what you want. The additional feed would be required from another stop light switch or by adding a stop light switch that has a couple more terminals and running wires to the rear. If it were an ABS car you could just use the feed of the ABS module BUT to save the aggravation of feeding wires all the way to the rear this WILL get the job done! You just need to supply a feed from both the right and left stop lamps to this diode. Very straight forward:
This brake light conversion module should be available at any auto parts store that has a good supply of trailer accessories. I have one on my pick-up to operate the third brake light on the top of my shell.
My '84 Corvette FSM electrical diagram for the brake lights (pg. 8A-43) shows there should be a lt blue wire, identified as "to export rear lamps" that comes from the brake light switch, that could be wired directly to your third brake light! The diagram doesn't show where the other end of this wire goes, but if it's really there, I'd guess it should be in the wire bundle that goes under the RH cargo lamp. I've found a few "bugs" in this manual, so no guarantees! I'd be interested to know if you find this wire.

Roy, You're right, it is a light blue wire running under the RH cargo light.
I'm having a problem with the third brake light on my '89 coupe where the voltage isn't making it to the light. I'm thinking the switch/controller down by the brake pedal might be the issue but I'm still not sure. The voltage is there until I connect the light to it at which point the voltage disappears... Kinda wierd. If anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it!
