I am having a loud grinding sound with the car shaking coming from under the hood. I think it's the starter etc but want to be sure before I yank it out.
First thing I would do is turn the engine over by hand to see if you have any unusual noises. Hopefully you don't have engine failure.
Next, pull the flex plate cover, and have a friend turn the engine by hand. Check the flex plate teeth for damage. If that's all OK, then pull you starter and check it thoroughly.
I agree with 92 I would see if the motot turns over by hand. I tried to look at the alt in the video it does no appear it is. if you cannot turn it over take you belt off and see if all the acc turn freely. then try turning over again.

Was this all of a sudden or did you do something before? I've heard a sound like that before. It turned out to be the flywheel hitting the aluminum cover on the bell housing. (I removed the cover to clean it while changing out the oil pan gasket.)
