Default Side to side rear play

So at autocross yesterday the tech inspector almost failed me because of some play in my rear wheels. I thought he was just being an **** d bag, but if i grab either of the rear wheels, there is a tiny bit of thunk thunk back and forth. Only about 1/8 of an inch but its there. They let me run that day but said i have to get it fixed before next time. Where do i start? I have yet to jack the car up but im looking for ideas. Ive never torn into this part of the car.
I also noticed that when im braking hard during autox, my rear tires shudder or "hop". I thought it was the nature of the beast but maybe its part of my issue

Do as rear end inspection. My wheel bearings went out and i had top-bottom play. Chrek all susp connections, and don't forget something as simple as torquing the lug-nuts!

If you are not familiar with doing the inspection: 1, get a manual to guide you and 2, ask another racer for info/assistance.

If everything checks ok and you still have the play. See if the stub axles in the diff. are sliding in and out some. Ask me how I know!!!

With the car off the ground, you will be able to see exactly where the play is coming from
