84 4x3 trans dissamble
I'm working on a 84 Vette 4x3 transmission, Customer said it wont go into 3rd or 4th.
I have worked on several Vettes in the past, I build transmissions for a living for 35 years, just never worked on one of these.
I've got a couple questions, the overdrive section has no cable hooked up to it, customer said it was like that when he got the car, I've got the unit on my bench, and there's no oil in the overdrive part, could this effect the t-10 not going into 3rd or 4th ?
I'm thinking the brass is wore out.
I don't see how it could, but I'm not sure.
Second, I unbolted the overdrive section, and removed it, and the t-10 rear bearing cover, I pulled all the bolts outta it, removed the snapring and washer, and it seams the bearing is pressed on the shaft.
Would this be correct ?
And any good ideas how to get the rear bearing cover off, I don't want to heat the inner brg race, don't want to ruin the brg.
I tried prying up, both sides at the same time, on the cover, the brg is not moving up the shaft.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks..

No ATF in the OD unit should not make a difference in the 3-4 shift, but if the guy drove the car for any length with no fluid, the OD could be toast.
Do you have online access to something like ALLDATA? The big Chilton's books (professional books) will have procedures for tear-down and assembly of the 4+3. The FSM for the '84 will have the step-by step procedures and IIRC, that's what you see in ALLDATA.

It appears to be missing the pressure cable for the od unit,
The forks and top look good,
I got all the bolts and snap ring out/off and it seams like the brg is pressed on the shaft.
Im just not sure how to get the brg to come up the shaft without hurting the cover.
Im goanna try to post a couple pictures.
