Default {HELP} Spliting Engine and ECM wiring harness.

I've got both of the bolts on the inside (ecm) out, what else needs to be done to seperate the wire harness at the firewall? Do I need to unplug the engine side also, and if so what needs to be done, and what do I need to remove in order to get to the engine side connector. Thanks in advance.

There should be a small nut on the engine side that you need to remove. It's hidden from view in a hole on the front side of the connector. I think it's 7mm, but not absolutely certain. After that, you should be able to pull it apart.

You're talking about the connector near the battery, right? The one near the ECM does not come apart.

Yeah I'm talking about the connector by the battery. I'm replacing the entire ECM harness... Fixing this....

Thanks for the help!!

Yikes! Was that an electrical fire? Looks like it got pretty much the hole dash.

Yeah it was an electrical fire.... the idiot display shorted out. It happened last summer, and I have everything to fix it, and it should only take about 30 hours. It's worth it to fix it, because the fire was containted to all of what you see. The paint was 6 days old before the fire, and it has a 383 w/ less than 20K on it. So the insurance gave me 13.5 to fix and I saved a ton doing it all myself.

If you're replacing the ECM harness, it passes through the passenger side of the firewall, somewhat below the right head. The connection behind the battery is actually two parts, one for the lights, the other for the power feeds, dash, a couple of grounds, a/c and few other items, but not for the ECM.

You're right there is a plug for the ECM that passes through the passenger side. But the main Wiring harness that also attaches to the ecm, the dash, radio and everything else inside the car is known as the ecm harness, and connects to the firewall on the driver side of the car, opposite the connection behind the battery.
