can this be done at home or not? mine is cracked adn i got a nice used one that i need to put on. I looked in my haynes book sounds easy but i heard its under pressure and it will kick out when moved!?? well is this true help JAY
this spring is the one from side to side
Re: change rear spring !! need sum advice!! (jparr)
it is super easy. jack the rear of the car up and secure properly. Then take the jack and begin to lift the actual spring until the big bolt is free of tension. Unbolt the side you have and release the jack slowly. Repeat on the other side and then unfasten from the diff. cover. Resecure the new spring and get an alignment ASAP. Can be done in less than an hour if you have a good knowledge of the rear suspension and less than 2 for the average guy.
Cheers,
Robert

I can be done at home, and Robert said, it is super easy. In fact I have mine out right now, awaiting the replacement gears for my differential. As for it being under pressure, IMO it was not as bad as it sounds. Simply used the jack to relieve any potential pressure release. Here is a pic just prior to pulling out the leaf spring. Oh, and by the way, you do not need to pull each knuckle assembly to replace it. I had to do U-joints, hubs, and gears all at once.

I did it the Haynes way, never had done anything to a spring before. Not sure about the front, but the rear is easy. Just do it, take your time, you'll be fine
