Default Bad gas solutionS?

Car has been sitting for a year as I am getting it put back together after an accident. I have been starting it on a regular basis the entire time. I noticed that it is starting to give off some blackish smoke and is not wanting to start and run cleanly now. I am almost done with the car and it has at least a couple of gallons of this old gas in it still. would it be a solution to add new gas to it until I can burn the stuff out of it? Should I bite the bullet and drain the fuel? If so, what would be the easiest way to drain it. I plan on changing the filter and injectors after car is driving. The blackish smoke is not oil or coolant from what I can tell. Please correct me if I am wrong, but, white smoke =coolant. Blue smoke =oil. Black smoke +=bad gas. It is a 1992 LT-1. Thanks Forum!

Gasoline sitting for a year would not be contaminated, unless it was
in an environment producing condensation, especially, since you have been recirculating it through the filters.

If you want to rid the tank of 'old' gas, use a hand pump.

From the following link:

Black smoke:
Can be an indication of a rich fuel condition. These are possible causes:

Fuel Injectors: A leaking or dripping fuel injector will cause a rich fuel condition.

Fuel Pressure Regulator: A stuck closed fuel pressure regulator will cause a rich fuel condition.

Fuel Return: A restricted fuel return line will cause a rich fuel condition.

Thanks for the information! I will try to diagnose the problem from there then. Is there a chance that the opti-spark could be involved?

This is one thing I have quite a bit of experience on and that is getting the gas out of the tank!! Actually, you can take a piece of pipe, I use copper, about 3 ft long, and then attach a hose to that. I use a piece of clear vinyl tubing about 4-5 ft long. The pipe goes through the filler neck and straight to the bottom of the tank, in the lowest place. I then suck it out of there, and what little is left, start the motor up and let it run until it dies. Its only about a qt of fuel.
I have done this several times switching from pump gas to e85

There's always a chance the opti can be involved. Take one step at
a time. Check for trouble codes. http://tech.corvettecentral.com/2011...trouble-codes/

If no codes, either remove the fuel, or fill the tank, and change the filters. Usually, and I stress usually, the opti either works, or it doesn't. Seldom is it intermittent.

See how the vette responds to new fuel........ next would be the injectors. Don't panic.
