stock mufflers are rusting through and im the kind of guy that likes the sound of a v8 so im looking for some nice muffler eliminators or a "catback" exhaust system for around 400/500. not too worried about resonance its never rally bothered me. thanks!
Have a muffler shop cut the old mufflers off and weld in some straight pipe. Should cost around $50 to do and then maybe a few bucks more for some chrome tips.
When my mufflers on my '94 rusted through I replaced them with Corvette Central's muffler eliminators. I went with the LT1 tips. Here is a link for the set for your '85. http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050F
I liked them, but their paint on the tips does not last very well. I would strip them and repaint them better if I do it again.
I went with these since I like to do it myself and I did not want to go to a muffler shop. All I needed to do was to cut the stock rear y pipe and clamp these on. It was a pretty easy swap and the pipes appear to be bent pretty well and fit good.

Goto the Magnaflow website and find their performance CAT replacement.
Straight pipes sound crappy, so look at Magaflows replacement for those as well.
dont hate me for saying it but i like my pipes LOUD i have an old 69 ranger with open pipe and long tubes and thats the sound i like. would those elims and a free flow cat/gutted cat make a good rumble and idle and sound good at WOT?

In my 85, I'm running the original exhaust manifolds with the original front y-pipe going into a high-flo cat that hooks up to the Walker rear y-pipe with crossover exiting thru Allen's baffled muffler eliminators. The sound is actually quiet at idle, only a little louder than stock. Most people don't realize that the car is basically straight pipe at the rear. However, when you get on it, its loud. It sounds something like a 60's Corvette with side-pipes. You can click on this link for a sound bite of the system: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZkfozogd40
That system you showed the link to would probably sound similar. The price is right and if you don't need a cat for emissions in your state, I say go for it.
my 85 sound great with corvette central's muffler eliminators....you can get a x pipe from them which will eliminate the cat for an even louder sound...not good for california though...
that system i linked seems like its SS its definitely not aluminized. and the cat tube that goes back into the A.I.R can that be blocked without hurting the engine or messing with the ecm?

Well boys, your annoying loud straight pipes are actually subdued by the engines lack of power.
Noise and chrome won't make you go any faster than stock.
And removing or gutting CATs is a wasted effort.
Living where he does, the chances are that he has to have the car emissions tested to get the plates renewed. Gut the cat or remove it will make the car fail the test.
As long as a replacement cat will meet the WA (49-state) emissions test, he can get one installed. If he wants a shop to remove the cat, most all shop will refuse to do that. If a shop gets caught doing that, they can face a 5-figure fine.

That tube from the AIR pump supplies air to the cat, just like it supplies air into the exhaust manifolds. It won't harm the engine if the AIR system is removed, and the ECM will not set any codes.
The pump pushes air into the manifolds when the engine is cold which helps to reduce the amount of unburnt fuel. Once the engine warms up, the pump pushes air into the cat to help it reduce the emissions.

Well your wrong on both comments. I live in a CARB1 zone which means a visual and sniff test one time or when the title changes owners
I do my own work. And if the cat is removed it only proves the owners ignorance of smog laws.
