Default Almost there!

So I almost finished my 2 month weekend project.

1985 Corvette Doug Nash 4+3 Dana 44

- TPIS Mini Ram II Intake Manifold w/ AFPR
- Hedman Long Tube Headers
- Flat tappet version of ZZ409 Camshaft
- 3.75:1 Gears
- Catalytic Converter Delete
- Muffler Eliminators
- EGR Delete
- Secondary Air Injection System Delete
- Red MSD 8.5mm Low Resistance Ignition Wires
- Air Filter Lid Cut
- Descreen MAF sensor
- Throttle Body Coolant Bypass
- Heated Oxygen Sensor conversion
- Bump Timing to 12 Deg. BTDC
- Tune

Still have to install my Speedometer Calibrator and K&N Air filter, coming Tuesday. (Damn Ecklers! If they would have shipped them one day before they probably would have been here by now.)

Going to home depot tomorrow to get bolts for the valve covers as some how a few of them disappeared, no leaks though.

Still have to set my fuel pressure up right though.

The current outcome:

Bad:

- Idle fluctuates between 600-750 RPMS, will hopefully be fixed in my next tune or adjusting fuel pressure.
- So much drone, really loud and can't hear myself think even with the windows up.
- Heard the cam a lot more when I ran it with open headers, now it sounds closer to a stock cam with the full exhaust.
- My speedometer is off.
- Screams at higher speeds.
- Gas mileage.
- Have to run 91+ octane
- Can't beat on it for 500 miles.

Good:

- Sounds really amazingly aggressive and beastly.
- A lot of heads were turned tonight.
- The engine can really BREATHE!!
- I can just feel the power in the pedal, it really pulled in 4th gear in O/D and I only pushed it down maybe like 4mm.
- Runs smooth and strong!
- My car was never beaten on by previous owners because the cam had average wear, gears had no chips or nicks at all, and the heads were spotless meaning they kept up on oil changes!

I definitely feel a difference, this car is just bad to the bone! I will update you guys later on with everything about the car.

Satisfied!

Grand total: Around $4,000

Yeah thanks! My fuel pressure must be wayyyy off. I think its supposed to run at 38 psi at idle with vacuum, and when we were first diagnosing a no start problem, we had read fuel pressure at 35 psi while primed. My tune is set for 43 with no vacuum. So I must be running at around ~30 psi now with vacuum, which I guess would be why I'm having idle fluctuations, (hopefully). I'm also going to set the TPS voltage again as I did knock that throttle body around on a few things. Lol.

Getting a new throttle body soon anyway, can't seem to find one completely stock though.

As for the exhaust. WOAH! People look over at me like I'm crazy, I've never gotten these kind of looks it's almost like they're pissed off at me. Hahaha. On my second day of driving it, it seems to be more tolerable, probably because I was stressed and in a rush to finish it the other day. My old Auto Tech instructor is going to sell me a dynomax fulll true dual exhaust with stainless steel mufflers, he said it was very aggressive and very loud, but not nearly as loud as with straight pipes. Should be a good combination with the headers and cam. But this current exhaust definitely has a very aggressive tone.

I've put almost 100 miles on it in less than 24 hours, and I only went from the shop to my house, to an Auto Zone, to an Advanced Auto Parts, and then to another Auto Zone, which all didn't have a fuel pressure tester kit that I could rent, well, the last Auto Zone did but I tried to use it and it was broken, pouring gas all over out the release hose. *Sigh*.

Tomorrow is oil change time, and I have to weld the dipstick tube to the header, as well as adjust fuel pressure.

Your ears must be ringing with no cats or mufflers. So must your neighbors ears. Not sure you would want a stock throttle body with a 406. I'm running a 58mm on mine and it works well.

I switched to a Dynomax full true dual exhaust that has no cats, and goes from the headers down to two stainless steel Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers. A lot quieter, but a lot of drone a low RPMs and not enough rumble. Need something to give it that rumble sound like the previous exhaust did.

Might be fun and cheaper to make your own gage:
