The currnet rims on my 35th have been through hell with the previous owner. Lots of rash discoloration, even a bent lip. I have another set of rims which are pretty much perfect but not painted. What is the best way to prep these rims so that the paint will adhere and not chip off in a week???? I only want to do this once......
You will never get a match with the powder coat! If you were a little closer to the Baltimore/Washington vicinity I'd recommend "Ye Ole Wheel Shop" but ideally you would likely have a panel done to match the car and then the refinish of the wheels.
You might check with some larger collision shops and higher ended dealers in the area and see who they use for wheel repairs and restorations. You want to have a conversation with the wheel refinisher regarding your needs.
It's not a job that most collision or paint shops will jump on for sure. Wheel repair/refinish operations do it daily. You could maybe use a front fender panel from the car to use for a panel to match and you wouldn't need to tie up the car at a shop.
