Where is OBD socket located?

Where is OBD socket located?
I bought the HPP3 for my 95 Coupe, and I'll be darned if I can find the socket to plug it in. A friend said it's under the dash, but we looked and cannot find it. I have the Helm service manual and it says it's under the dash. Anyone else have this problem? :confused: :confused:

When sitting in the drivers seat it shud be directly over you right leg. Its about 2"
by 1/2' & is at the bottom of the trim panel to the right of the steering column.

Thanks Lou. I suppose I will have to remove the carpet-covered kick panel to see it. Will give it a try tonight. I still feel stupid with an HPP3 that is 3 months old and never been plugged in. :)

It's way way under the dash. With your foot on the gas pedal, the connector should be above the bottom of your shin. Just put your hand under the dash (where you thought it was) and keep moving it down along the kick panel towards the front of the car--you'll find the connector.

You shouldn't need to remove the kick panel cover to see the plug.
And what ever you do, don't plug it in upside down it will blow your entire electrical system. :D :D (Just Kidding).

Thanks to both of you. You have given me renewed confidence! I will probably need to climb under there to see the socket, not an easy thing for a 60 year old. I am terrible at just feeling around in the dark for something like this. Just my luck it will have a cover on it that must be removed. The Helm manual eluded to this as a possibility on some of the 95 cars.
It also strikes me as odd that the factory uses the OBDII socket on my car to connect to the OBDI electronics. I know this because a mechanic friend of mine has a SnapOn scanner that reports it when you enter the VIN. ;)

You shouldn't actually have to see it to hook in the Hypertech. I'm also not as flexible as I used to be but once you "feel" the connector, you can install the Hypertech plug without actually having to see it. I reach under with my left hand to support the connector and then push the Hypertech connector in with my right hand. The connector is like the parallel port on a computer and shaped so you cannot hook the Hypertech upside down.

If you've had alarm work done on your car, or any other work done under there, they may have not put it back where it belongs. :mad Mines on upside down right now from what it's suppose to be and is really hard to get at.

Thanks David. You win the prize for best information! I have the Clifford Solaris, a very good alarm. Unfortunately, the installer mad a mess of the wiring under the kick panel. Also, there is NO OBD SOCKET! I can only guess the installer cut it off and used the wires to connect directly to the alarm. That installer will get a call from me tomorrow. :smash:

I'm glad I could help out. I had no idea it wouldn't be there at all though. Hopefully they just shoved it up under the dash or something. If they cut it out, I'd be really :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad .
