Who has the link to David's tutorial on rebuilding the OD? I need to see if I can do this myself without any clutch drum compressors and don't have the link here. Might have to rebuild one TONIGHT and swap trannies tomorrow for a race.
I rebuilt my 700R4 in the past. I didn't have any $$$ for expensive tools so I made all my compressors out of all-thread and 3/8" steel. A cutoff tool was quite handy. So was a nice sharp drill bit and plenty of nuts that fit the all thread.
It sure sucks to be out of commission, doesn't it?
Only for highway cruising and speeds in excess of 145. :) I just got back from the local pub, took the vette. She's find for anything that only uses up to 4th.
Scorp, your my kind of guy, jump right in there. Been following your saga's for awhile (went the TT Z route for awhile, prefer the vette ) anyway, if you have the rebuild tutorial I'd like to see it also. Another source to consider is the popular mech cd, they are quite good, same as GM factory manual....
I am looking at a rough 85 with a 4/3 ,the OD is not working , light throttle disengages it, but my concern is the qvailability of hard parts if I need them, what has your experience been, how do you rate this trans. I hear all the horror stories but half are probebly the result of incompetent people working on them. I have had many vetteeee auto's but I want a stick.

I love the trans. As long as they are taken care of, and you change the fluids & filter reguarly they seem to be fine for a looong time. My original one had 166k on it before I sheered 2 gears off of the 1st gear cluster gear inside the 4-speed.
You can always make spring compressors with PVC pipe, some threaded rod and appropriate nuts, some angle iron and a little imagination. All for under 10 bucks at your local Home depot or equ.
