1992 /security light comes on intermittantly whendriving
hi all just brought this car 3 weeks ago it was imported from japan to new Zealand,a problem with the security light by the fuel gauge and the one on the l/h side of the speedo coming on intermittently, any ideas, also don't know how to set or shut off the alarm, cheers paul

You set the alarm by locking the car. You disarm it by unlocking the car with the key in the door (there is a switch mounted on the key cylinder). If you have a fob then using that will also disarm the alarm.
I don't know how the SECURITY light is set up for your car. In my '86 the SECURITY light blinks if the door is open and the system is NOT armed. The SECURITY light stays on solid if the door is open and the system IS armed. The SECURITY light goes out if the door is closed or the ignition is turned on. My car has a module that controls the alarm behavior. My understanding is that later years have a BCM (Body Control Module) that handles the alarm functions. I don't know when that started.
Try wiggling the ignition switch to see if you can get the SECURITY light to blink or otherwise come on. If that doesn't do it, it's probably dirty contacts inside one of the switches (driver's side or passenger side) on the door hinge pillar.
