Hi I am looking into changing the trans in my 84. I am needing to find what manual trans will bolt to the stock engine and what I will need as far as drive train parts, I know I will need a master and pedal assembly but need to find out what else is involved. My grandfather owns a fab shop so work is not an issue as many will say sell it and buy a manual. this car has sentimental value so out of the question.
Thanks in advance
Adam

The 4+3 was available for the 84, but you will need to do some wiring to make it work properly. Also, the shifter bolts to the body so it's possible that you may have to modify the trans tunnel to be able to bolt the shifter in place. The center console will be different too.
The ZF will work but it will cost more than the 4+3.
Keisler makes a very nice bolt-in 5-speed but figure on something like $3K and probably more by the time you get everything needed for the swap.
I'm not sure if the manual trans C-beams and driveshafts are different lengths compared to the A4, but you will need a front yoke specific to the trans.
Ive read where some people have used t5 trans instead of the 4+3 any one on here done this. Looking for a cheap way to convert, don't care about value of the car or resale. Looking for somthing a salvage yard might have?
