Default Where to buy?

I am going to replace my trans with the new engine. My existing trans is probably tired and it is the inferior 27 spline model
I need suggestions where to buy a built 700R4 that is specific for my car. There's a bunch of places that sell 700R4's but I've only found a couple that handle the "V" case trans.

Is forum member PeteK (note: NOT PeterK) still active? He turned out some very nice tranys and TCs.

Where are you located? Location could have a good bit to do with a buy I'd think. I don't believe I'd be interested in an Internet buy as a "1st choice" for a transmission.

If you have a choice, get the late '87 or later 700r4 or 4L60. They are much improved over the earlier versions.

I replaced the transmission in my 85 with a Pro-Built 700R4 and Vigilante converter. This is a rock solid transmission. Each transmission is built to customer specs. Give Dana a call and you will find he really knows his stuff.

Get a trans with a good guarantee , I know Jasper have a great engines and transmissions, and if they do go bad the pay the installer to replace the trans.

A friend of mine has his own garage he tells me they are great people to deal with, they don't leave you hanging when you have a problem.

Most areas have transmission shops, you might find a reliable one in your area, where I live I wouldn't trust anyone but Jack Sepanek, Jack Jr is now running the shop they do mostly race trans work.

I was almost ready to get a TCI streetfighter & converter until I started reading bad reviews on TCI. However, as usual I am reading bad reviews on all trans companies. I decided to call Summit where I got ahold of a real JO who must not have wanted to work on Sunday. I ended up hanging up on him. I wrote a note to Summit about the incident, I've got a long list of things that have been bought there so we will see what happens. I then covered a couple other places and ended up at Monster Transmissions where I was able to get a trans & converter with a 3 year warranty for less money than the TCI. I'm sure somebody will say, oh no not them but like I said, I read the same thing about PATC TCI and a couple others. I would have bought from PeteK in a heartbeat, he really helped me build the trans that was in the car. I have no idea how to contact him but that is a moot point now since I have already bought & paid for the Monster.

I bought used Monster 4L60e(F body) from a guy going 6spd, I put 510 rwhp in front of it and beat the snot out of it, I didn't care for it either. We put 25-30k miles on it and it was still kicking when we sold the car.

I've gone through a number of transmissions. Hopefully this will be my last.

If you would keep those front wheels on the ground you would have much better trans life, j/k

Which of those did you end up buying? I'm shopping for mine.

I went with the Street/Strip version (3-700SS) and a Vigilante 2800 stall converter. The 2800 stall is a good match for our cams. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with Dana. He asked a lot of questions about the engine build, driving habits and how I intended to use the car. The guy is a fountain of knowledge. The only drawback is that he works alone and it could be a while before you actually see the transmission at your doorstep. But if you can afford to wait it's worth it.
