Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (jaa1988)
on mine i just kept spinning the frisbee the opposite way of the waterpump and eventually it came off. If you have one of those belt style grippers to put on the water pump that might help. Also, make sure you put some lock washers on the bolts when you put them back in, and check them after a week or two to make sure they are still tight.

Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (DON M)
I was afeared to tap it, so I'll try that the next time I'm working on the car.
I'm exhausted from replacing the heater hoses, pulling and cleaning the radiator, replacing the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil.
Damn does it run better :D :D :D
For the guy asking about the frisbee, its on L98 engines only. It seems to have appeared on the 88 and up cars. According to Gordon Killebrew it is not required and can be removed. Its called a "frisbee" because on the 88 it looks just like a flat disc frisbee.
Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (jaa1988)
It's on the front of the water pump pulley--- About 10 lbs of excess rotating mass. I removed mine last night and hung it on the garage wall so everyone can ask "What the---". ;)
Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (jaa1988)
First off I assume you had the serpentine off the pulley.
Your "frisbee" is solid steel and weighs about 10lbs so just smack it with a small ball peen on the back side a copla times.
I did my "frisbee" delete while changing the water pump so used channel locks to remove the four studs and replaced them with bolts and lock washers for a neater appearance. I also used some thread lock to assure they would stay put till I wanted them out.
Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (jaa1988)
You'll never put it back on, right? So beat it, pull it, pry it with screwdrivers, who cares - it's trash. If you bang it up enough you can tell everone you blew the engine dragging a viper. Worth stud points, I think. :jester
Re: Yet Another "Remove the Frisbee" Question (jaa1988)
Its kind of like unwanted house guest, the longer its been there, the harder it is to get them to leave; or in this case the harder it is to get it off. I rocked mine back and forth and got it moving a little and then gave it a good smacl (also works for the unwanter house guests) and it came right off. Its alot heavier than it looks, thats why it takes so much force to get it off. :seeya

Mine just popped off. Once I loosened all 4 nuts, a little at a time I might add, it almost fell off. Then when I went to grab it, it did fall off, lol. Was waaaaaaaaaay heavier than I thought it would be.
