Default Found my vibration!

My original project for this winter was to replace all u joints to see if I could get rid of a slight highway speed vibration. That all got changed drastically when I flattened the cam, now it's a new engine, exhaust & trans. While I'm waiting for the engine & trans I figured I might as well do the u joints. I was doing the driveshaft when I found my slip yoke balancer ring was ready to depart. Not only can I spin it a full 360 degrees very easily, I can also move it forward & backward almost 1/4 inch. If it had came off it's hub it couldn't go anyplace but the racket it would have made would have raised the pucker factor considerably.
Then came the scary part, all the used ones on ebay were the same way, loose balancer ring. This part is discontinued and the one & only place that could help was Corvette Central, they carry reconditioned ones which was my only option. I got one coming but I have to wonder why any ordinary 700R4 yoke wouldn't work just fine. Anybody have any input on this?
Anyway, all I wanted to do was alert anyone who may have a vibration they can't find to give this yoke ring a look.

The conventional slip-yoke is used often with few issues. You will need to add a "balance procedure" to your project when you receive your rebuilt slip-yoke. Many do it every time they service the drive-shaft anyway. Local drive-line facility can accommodate you. In your particular situation I believe you can add a "must do" flag for it!

I used to have the balancer ring when my car had a 4+3. I chucked it during one of my rebuilds and didn't have a problem. A dozen trannies later I still don't have one and have never had vibration issues.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, I will have to see if I can find a service local. Thanks for the advice.
