Cruise Control adjustment

Now, my hopefully last questioin on this topic is how do I adjust the switch on the brake pedal to make my cruise control work properly, as of now I have to hold the pedal up with my foot for it to work. Car is an 89' corvette with an automatic transmission.
I saw that you have to push in the switch but I could not get it to go in, dues to limited room and I installed a keyless entry and alarm which is also partially in the way. My question, is what is an easier way to do it, like maybe some tool I can buy and leverage it on something, or should I take it to a local well-known and reputable mechanic and have him to it to save me the hassle and if I did it that way about how much do you think it would cost?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Stephen
