Recently when I have tried to start my car, after sitting for a few hours, it has had some trouble. It makes one click and doesn't do anything after that. It takes a few more tries and then it turns over. Can you all give me some suggestions on what it might be and how hard it will be to do by myself?
You don't say what kind of car you have,im assuming (hate that word) it is a c4, look for the very ovious things first,battery connections,starter connections battery,starter etc and if all else fail;s run a wire fro the little post on your starter,make it long enough that you can touch the positive post of your battery,if the car fails to start turn the ignition key on touch the wire to the positive post of battery and if it starts the trouble is in the dash,relay behind dic,theft devices,key microchip, look for the simple things first
I have the same problem in my C4's - it usually happens once in a blue moon and then starts right up the next time - let me know when someone figures it out !!!
Sounds like it could be the starter. I just installed one in my 1991, very easy install. The thing cost me less than $100 too! I had the problem that the starter would drag sometimes. It was a bad coil and sometimes it would land on that spot, other times it would start right up.
Good luck
To find out where I got the cheap starter, look at my other posts. I did have to buy shims from a local auto shop, all of $4.
Couple of things you might check;
Battery cables - both postive and ground - how do they look. Any signs of corrosion? Are all the connections tight?
How hot does the starter feel? Those are the most obvious places to start.
Good luck.
