Heel Toe vs. Bean Counters
heel toe down shifts. The stock '96 pedal has about 1" of side slop that makes the pedal unresponsive.
After first removing the seat so that I could get at the nuts and cable for removal, I almost had to call 911
to retrieve my hand from the dash.
The pedal pivots on a steel 1/4" pin that is press riveted through a plastic bushing and the bent sheet metal
pedal arm. The sheet metal is not parallel so that a decent bearing surface is eliminated. There is a square hole
on one side, so they probably originally designed it for a carriage bolt, but then used the pin because it was cheaper.
There couldn't be a cheaper design. It must have been surplus from the Vega. I finally reassembled it with washers,
jam nuts & a sholder bolt. It's better but not great. If anybody has a quality throttle pedal assembly please let me know.
This car is such a paradox.
Why have a throttle pedal designed for an A4 with a M6?
Why have a magnesium bell housing with a 50 pound flywheel?
Why have fiberglass body with a 500 pound frame?
