What caused my clutch grinding problem??????
Sunday night i removed the tranny and clutch housing, found the inside of the housing full of metal shavings, looks to me that the fork was making contact with pressure plate and ground a nice little section.
The fork does not look to be bent, the clutch disc is in way better shape than i'd hoped, no other obvious signs of failure from the other parts.
I had a mechanic i work with check over things, his thoughts were too much crankshaft end play causing the clutch assembly to move back, or the flywheel might be fudged.
Anywho if there are others that have had this or heard of such a mess please let me know and advice will help, Thanks

I had this problem also. The clutch fork pivot ball was backing out. It is accessed on back of the bell housing, with a hex wrench. THere is also a thing that screws into the hole that is suppose to lock the pivot ball from backing out like this. As mine worked it sway out, the grinding got worse by the day.
I'd bet on this as your problem also. Check it out and let me know.

I did my pivot last week. You'll need a 6mm allen for the little cover and a 12mm for the pivot. Mine had never been off before and I had to put a pipe on the end of the allen before the threads finally broke loose. Lots of torque!
Observe that, to tighten the pivot, it is counter clockwise. I think 37 ft. lbs. is the torque spec on that.
How was the City Hall tour?
I would think the pivot ball is more then likely the cause, too.... that much end play would result in a tore up bottom end...
Go Porsche hunting... and use know how it goes!!!
Upon clozer inzpection ( insert german accent ) I found that the pivot had made a suicide attempt, it was more than 1/2 way out of it's threads. Wow could just imagine what could have hapened if it made it all the way out. Just waiting for my new clutch to come in and I'll be back out to play.
By the way , the guy with the porshe cancelled his lease and now he is sporting a 02 Z06, loves the car and now understands why I love vettes so much. Later
