Default Worn steering wheel refinished

My steering wheel was beginning to look pretty worn after 50K miles. Since I was considering buying a new wheel anyway I thought I would try a little experiment. I used some liquid Kiwi brand heal and sole dressing for shoes (black) on the steering wheel. The stuff dried really smooth in about 15 minutes and made the wheel look brand new. It's been about 3 months since I did this and the finish still looks like new and has not worn off. This may not be for everyone but the price of the polish compared to a new wheel or the hassle of sewn on covers is well worth it.

I did this about two years ago on my '85. Used very fine sandpaper to smooth then used black Kiwi shoe dye. I finished it off with some neutral paste wax. It is just now beginning to fade a little again. I guess it's time to repeat. Sure beats paying a couple of C's for a rewrap. :D
