need a little help here. My dash lights went out this weekend. Everything works on the dash, just no lights. The turn signals, and the high beam indicators work fine, as does the tattletales. I took the dash apart, and resoldered all the connections. Still no lights. I can bypass the top board with a wire to the power, and test the lights, and they all light up, but if I reconnect the dash with this bypass wire in place, it blows the fuse!! If I take the bypass wire off, everythig is ok, tha dash works perfect, just no lights. I would think it's a ground issue, however, the turn signals and high beam indicator appear tha have the same ground, and they work! I read an article by Gordon Killebrew, and he mentions the ambient temperature override on the C-100 connector. Anyone happen to know where this connector is at??? I've looke all over for it, but I guess I don't know what to look for.
Sorry this is so long, but any help would be appreciated.....
There is a single row of pins that connect the two cluster boards together. The pin closest to the center of the board carries the lamp current and the rear (from car front) board has the sockets and the age relaxed spring on the lamp pin socket causes connection resistance which gets hot from the lamp current and it unsolders the pin on the front board. Resoldering will only last until it unsolders itself again. I soldered a short piece of insulated hookup wire from the rear to the front center pin/socket and have had no more problems.
My shop manual ('85) lists a C100 bulkhead connector located on the cowl. I think it is a big terminal block on the fire wall between the battery and the wiper motor.
My lights did the same thing last month a couple of times intermittantly. They have worked since. I tore it apart when they where not working and with the help of of the schematics in the back of the manual found nothing wrong. Just guessing, but I suspect the problem with mine is in the auto dimmer circuit.
I can feed 12V to the bulbs and they all light up, so I know it isn't the bulbs.....as far as the pins go, I too have put in the extra wire before, just to make sure this didn't happen. I can force the bulbs to light with a wire from the hot @ C19, but this blows the fuse when I reconnect to the harness.....diving me crazy!!!

Someone asked how you weren't sure it was the bulbs. I got a simpler question - did you check all the fuses? I had a simmilar problem on my 88 and it turned out to be one of the fuses!
To answer your origianl question it is in the top LEFT corner with a blue wire and black wire coming out of it. This small device has a white tracer on the black wire and goes through the firewall on my 84. I read the same book and they suggest you run another ground from that black wire to the door hinge. I did that and I have no lights and my turn signals and high beam stays on which I'm told is a bad ground. This weekend I do surgery and remove the whole cluster to find out what is happening in there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
