Well my radio antenna on my '86 stopped working correctly today. I heard a noise turned out the motor was running for I don't know how long. I had to pull the battery cable to stop it.
I think the plastic cable is broken. Does anybody know if the universals (heinman??) sold by the parts houses look the same when installed that is flat top, recessed tip, I want the stock look.
Does it pay to try upgrading to the later model and will it fit?
thanks

I replaced mine with the upgrade version and the reception has not changed, it still s__ks :U Stick with the stock replacement. Not worth the extra money for the upgrade. :seeya
I got my antenna mast for like 27 bucks from the chevy dealer. 2 problems tho --the replacement sticks up a bit in the off position (bout an inch)--and I had to remove the whole assy and take it completely apart to get the jammed up pieces of old cable out. Over all im pretty happy with it as the old one was bent to heck and looked awfull.
Hey Mr Mojo,What are you planning to do? I think I'm going to try and raise the antenna then pull the power plug. From what I have read the motor is still good, just need a mast and cable. Seems to be a PITA to do.

It happened to me about a year ago. Went to radio shack and boought a whole new antenna for ~$30. fits right in and less hassle with taking a part the old one and stuff. Just a suggestion. Reception is even better than the stock one.
To unplug it, you still have to take the rear interior apart. There is no plug on the antenna itself . You have to unplug it at the relay. It is a bit to the left of the rear hatch latch under the cover.
