Default 86 temp control -blend door cable removal help

Need information on connection at controller .I know its only a cable how hard could it be to see what holds it !!!! I pulled the dash apart and radio out of the 86 vert to see what troubles the blend door control .Found the controller had came apart somewhat .parts are not to be found under the dash so someone was there before me . Found another controller online and waiting for it to arrive .I tried to pull the controller out of the dash to access the connections but there is little play to move it and I can't see what holds the cable to the controller so I can't remove it . Has anyone pulled a cable off ??/ I can't see behind it but feeling around for a screw back there but not finding what they used to hold the outer cable in with. Removed the star washer from the control tab and can see the cable going thru a plastic tunnel that looks to be attached to the controller but can't see with what its attached .I'm trying to remove without breaking anything as the rest of the functions work . I looked under the dash at the door side and it has what I would expect a clip holding the outer cable .Anyone who has been at this remember how the cable is connected on the controller side before I pull and break something ???

Based on this picture, it looks like it's held by a nut on the bottom (item #8):

Don't be expecting a "hex nut" - this is an M3.6 X 11.23 push-nut. Original GM # 11501937. If not available I would think a 5/32 from a general hardware selection might likely do. The GM original should likely be available locally. It was also an ACD part # also.

Thanks for the pic shows a lot I can't see .On mine # 8 is a star type or push nut which connects the inner cable to the pivot on the end of the slider it just slides on and locks .I have that off .What I can't seem to see is what holds to outer part of the cable on the back
See that tab near the #6 that's locked into the rear of the controller might be glued in as I can't move it .I think I might be able to remove the cable from the blend door and then take pull whole thing out and put it on the bench to see what holds it on .Maybe they tried to fix it by gluing it in the past ??? the pic doesn't show hardware holding it on !! Thanks guys !!!

That tab is NOT glued! That tab snaps in a square hole on the control linkage. It shouldn't be that difficult to depress the tabs.

Do you have a FSM? Page 1B1-27

Would you like to buy a FSM? Drop me a PM! I'll snapshot the image.

My fault. I grabbed mine ('90) knowing that I had seen that image before and it's in mine. I've also gotten your PM. I need to do a couple errands but I'll send it to you and likely post it here also.

Here's an eBay image and using the ZOOM you can see where it snaps in. I'll send the other to your email. The second image from the left. In the third image you can see the tabs that need released.

Thanks for the ebay image that shows what I'm missing also .That white center plastic (rivet I guess) must have broken off and po tried to do something with it. I'm on wife duty till Monday so I won't get back to the car till then .I can't see the little tabs on mine and I fear the po glued it on doesn't move at all when I wiggle it .I can see what looks to be glue on the cable where it goes thru the tab .If I could pull it forward a few more inches I'd be able to look in there .Its just far enough in to be out of clear sight and can't rll it over to see that angle . Probably best to remove the cable on the other side then pull the whole thing out where can see it before I break something trying to get a look .I want to salvage the cable if I can don't see them for sale new . thank You

The blend door is NOT in that image. The thread was concerning the control. The blend door is in the assembly in this image that is indicated by #3.

Inside #3 is the heater core.

The blend door is inside the evaporator housing, #28. You can see it by removing the blower motor resistors, #29 (C60) or blower motor control module, #30 (C68).
