Does anyone make a double roller timing chain for the 1994 LT1 ? I am planning a head/cam upgrade and I can't find anyone selling aftermarket timing chains for the LT1.
2 choices. Either the GM HD LT4 timing set which I'm running or go with an electric H2O pump and convert to a Cloyes double roller. I'm sure some who've done the conversion will speakup.
:chevy
I have heard that the double roller will not fit on the late LT-1's. I think it has to do with the cam, and the optispank. I could be misinformed, but you might ask some of the more knowledgable forum members before you buy it. :blueangel:

Can't run the electric pump because of camber brace, and I just can't see paying $240 for the HD LT4 timing chain.

I think it's the other way around, the Extreme Duty Double roller will only fit on the '95-'96 (stock). I believe it has to do with the cam, front cover, and Opti style.
I am in the process of doing this myself. There early style opti cars have
to upgrade to the new style opti & timing cover and electric pump to run the
double roller.
After doing some research on this, It is a good idea to upgrade the timing chain. The Heavy springs you'll have to handle the increased lift will wear a stock chain out quickly and things can go bad fast when that happens!
Mike, you might want to get ahold of Chris, lcvette, from next generation motorsports, he is setting up my package and has a great deal of experience with what we both are trying to do.
Are you autocrossing or dragging that car? If you want to hookup in a drag wouldn't the camber brace hender that? I don't even run a sway bar in front cause I love to rip some straight line A#%!!!

It's not a double roller. It's a larger single roller and you are correct on the years. 92-94 needs to also change the opti, cam and cover to the newer style.
If you go with the electric H2O pump then you can use a much less expensive true double roller. :chevy

James, Chris emailed me this morning with some info. I am going to try to call him tonight.

James, I want both. Since I am not a serious drag racer, I am willing to give up a little straight line acceleration for a little more turning capabilities.
Just replace the timing chain with a new one and be done with it. Not worth the hassle of upgrading all that there needs to be changed to have the newer style opti just to have the updated GMPP HD chain. Only other option is a double roller which you have to use a electric water pump with. (which is what I have) But since you have said you can't use the electric pump, then you are left with a new stock replacement. I ran a stock chain in my 396 prior to going to the double roller. It was in there about 8-10K miles. Still looks new and no measurable stretch has occured even after many race miles.
I too, am running a new stock chain. I have the hot cam kit with the heavier valvesprings, and increased lift from the cam / 1.6 ratio al roller rockers.
I have 3000 miles on this combo and have not YET KNOCK on wood had any problems :smash:
You followed my saga a little bit. I went with the double roller as I was going with the Mezier. But didn't realize I had to upgrade to the newer opti and TC cover. You should have seen my face when I slid that little opti shaft in and it had nothing to connect to.
So I just replaced the stock chain. I get a little nervous at 6400 rpm sometimes :)
Anyway if you go with the new style opti / TC cover and cloyes chain, IM me I have one I'd be willing to part with :seeya
Jay, my car only has 14,500 mies on it and the opti only has 2,000miles on it. I really don't want to buy another opti, so I will probably just go with the stock timing chain as you did.
The opti's are expensive, I don't blame you. Just as an FYI, Summit does sell a cloyes heavy duty TC set for the LT1, not sure if it is for early or late style optis. The price is heafty though, like $450 bucks.
I used a new stock LT1 timing chain on my setup also. I replaced my opti 7 months prior to the hot cam kit install so I was not about to buy another one to convert to the LT4 setup. Since this car does not see sustained 5500+ rpms the stock chain should suffice.
Heh guys, I called Jegs this morning and they said that Dynagear makes a roller timing chain for the LT1. Has anyone heard of Dynagear, or know of anyone running one?
