assuming that it IS a C4 ....yr model helps a LOT....

the generic answer would be battery cable on the starter. You MAY have a separate 'jumper' post that handles certain positive wires off the battery for accessories, explaining the lites and horn but no run or start.

as always, go thru fuses, check cables, grounds ( there are MANY) and ID and test ALL power sources.

As leesvet said, the YEAR helps a lot. C4s were made for a total of 13 years, with 5 different engines, several different transmissions, and a variety of wiring changes. Which year should we guess at????

Check RED wire going to the distributor to be sure that it is tight.

I would suspect a problem in the ignition switch or related wiring.

The clue is that the dash went dark at the same time the engine died.

IIRC the 84 has a jumper pole AND fusible links under the battery...

As suggested, the ONLY other place that could cause the symptoms as described (IF the cables and electrical to and from the starter & battery are PROVEN to be ok) would be the ignition switch...NOT the key switch, the real ignition switch hidden on the steering column. Fun to get to !

THAT is why you check the other simple, more obvious things first.

good luck
