Do I need a bigger throttle body?
Mods are in signature. Is my build something that would improve by using a larger throttle body?
Thanks

Ported TPI intake/plenum? No aftermarket runners or manifold?

No, stock runners and manifold for now. Would like to upgrade in the future though, but no solid plans as of yet.

Your stock 48mm TB is good up to about 400 HP. I don't see the motor putting that out with stock intake, runners and plenum.
You could go to the 52mm TB without any impact to the tune.

Its getting dyno tuned this summer... dont much care about the current tune. So that should have no bearing on your guys recommendations.

You won't get any more power from a throttle body. The intake and runners are your bottle neck.

even your 22lb injectors will run out of fuel before the 48mm will not flow enough air. 2 things FWIW. 1. When I was making 362rwhp 3000 stall etc. I switched from a 48 to a 52 and could not see any difference at the track. 2. The 502-502hp bigblock used a 48mm.

^Interesting.. I know track results are much more important than dyno results, but did you redyno the car after the 52mm tb?

as written above....the TB will not give you HP. It is a air inlet only. Change the runners and plenum to get additional HP.
You computer will compensate for any difference between a 48, 52 and 58 TB. Your better staying with the 48 with your current combination or only moving up to the 52 not the 58.

48mm throttle body flows 783CFM. If its an early TPI the choke point is the MAF,

Is an '87 considered early tpi?
What kind of gains are associated w/ upgrading my maf, and where are some good brands to start looking?

It depends on which dyno. I had one say that there was 350 HP at the engine and 430 pounds of torque. Another 265 HP and 320 torque.

I dont understand the question about early TPI, theres relatively little difference between the years.
You do not need a bigger TB or an upgraded MAF.

From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.
I'd put a differential pressure gauge across the throttle body to measure the actual restriction (ie: pressure drop). Takes the guesswork out of it.

85 thru 89 = MAF
90 & 91 = speed density, no MAF
Agree with Vader, you don't need bigger TB or MAF until the stock intake, heads, cam & exhaust are changed, Only then can the engine breath past 5K rpm.
