Default melted connector when using rear defroster

I turned on the rear defroster yesterday. I am guessing it is the first time in 8 years as I usually don't drive the 92 C4 in the cold weather. After a few minutes, I began smelling burnt plastic. What had actually happened is the plastic spade lug cover connecting the defroster wires to the window melted off from the heat, but didn't blow the fuse. This ever happen to anyone here?

Don't have a rear defroster but I've had wiring burn when it was overfused or under-gauge wire was used.

Actually, I'd guess that the most liekly cause of the overheating of the connector is that time (20+ years) has caused the metal connectors in that connector to corrode, which causes them to overheat because they are now "poor conductors".

The cure is to clean the pins and sockets well with contact cleaner, and then use some dielectric grease when reconnecting the connector, to prevent or at least slow down future corrosion.
