I just got about 2qts in my Dana 36 rear end this weekend. I did the siphon approach so you don't get it all out. I beleive 2 qts is enough with that approach. But 12oz of gear oil to 12oz of friction modifier sounds steep. I thought 2qts gear oil and 1 small bottle of modifier. Maybe someone else will chime in. I used Redline Synthetic and it already has the additive mixed in.
Ok, I'll check the local shop for Red Line with the additive already added. If they dont have it I'll go for the Mobil1 with the GM additive. Does Pep-Boys carry the additive?

Also, are there different weights for gear lube?
I just stop by the dealer and pay the list price. I've had troubles in the past with sticky limited slip, for all the work, I figure the extra cost is worth it. The Mobil1 only comes in 75W-90, I've been using in other cars for years with no troubles.
Just get the Redline. Its all you will need and you won't regret it. Even if you have to order it off the internet and wait for it to be shipped. I drained the rear end on the 86 two years ago and replace what ever was in there with the Redline. The car had 125K on it when I bought it. The rear end got quieter and the limited slip works much better. I autocross and do high speed track events so the car sees a lot of hard use.

Hey Mike,
There is a place out here in manassas, off of Ballsford Rd. called OGracing? They seem to specalize in Porshe racing equipment, but anyhow they carry Redline products. I got the waterwetter from them for $6.49 a bottle. If I had known about them when I did my rear end change, I would have got the redline fluid from them. By the way, Justin (at Zip) recmonded the GM factory oil and additive, unless I went Redline. It was his opinion that it was not a good idea to buy a syn. base oil and a mineral based additive.

They are a pretty good bunch of guys. Their prices can be a little above normal but if you want something right now they normally have it. I got the rear end lube and p/s fluid from them the last time I needed it.
I think the GM bottles are 23 oz each. Now that is pulling from memory. And you dont have to go to a chevy dealer. Any GM dealer will have it. Good luck
