first post from a newbie. i bought a beautiful 96 about a month ago with both ASR lights illuminated on the d.i.c. after chasing the problem ever since and after searching and trying all the recommended solutions on this site, i fixed it this morning. someone posted that his particular problem with the ASR was caused by a broken wire on his throttle position sensor (passenger side directly opposite the butterfly throttle cable actuator on top of the engine. looks kind of like a "p" with a cable connector hooked to it.) my wires were fine, but i disconnected the cable, cleaned the connector and added a dab of dilectric grease. NO MORE PROBLEMS! hope this post helps someone else.
UPDATE: asr light re-illuminated after a week or so. removed and cleaned abs rear sensors. easy to do if you have ramps. no need to take tires off. 10mm wrench/socket required. so far, abs lights on dic remain out.
