Well here's my problem. The car is a 95 6 spd with 42k on the clock. 2 days ago my finace started it, went to the store, and then it wouldn't start again. Turn the key and nothing. All of the electronics work fine, I thought is might a fuse for something like the clutch switch, or the factory alarm, but no luck. I even disconected the battery and then did nothing. Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone have any ideas of how to fix the problem. The car was towed to the stealer yesterday, and they will be "looking" at it today. Any ideas?
It's deff not the starter, and I do not believe it's the ignition switch, and I'll try cleaning out the ignition switch, but I did try both keys, and that didn't work.
When trying the crank position do you hear the start enable relay click behind the center of the dash? If you do , then jump the clutch switch (xmsn position sw if auto) and try again. If no crank, then jump 12 volts to both wires on the clutch switch (xmsn sw if auto), this will apply 12 v to the starter solenoid on the starter and it will crank if the starter and battery connections are ok. If you don't hear the start enable relay click, then most likely you have worn out contacts in the ign sw that make contact with the pellet in your ign key. Find the wires from the ign sw pellet contacts ( on my 87 they come out at the steering column under the carpet). These wires go to a 2 pin connector, unplug and measure the resistance of the wires from the steering column with your ign key in place. The resistance should measure the same as your pellet. If over 10k ohms, then the ign switch needs replaced. You can temporarily defeat VATS by clipping a fixed resistor the same value as your pellet onto the wires going over to the passenger side. VATS also won't allow the injectors to work if the correct resistance isn't detected, so even if you get the car to crank, it will not run unless the correct resistance is seen by VATS.
