For the 2013 year i came in second overall with 4 wins out of the 5 i ran with this car. (89 vert with super ram 383)
2013 setup was ( this pushed just a little at the limit)
Spring
F 115.5
R 87.5 (The jacking was addressed by keeping spare tire and minimizing rear ride height to be +1/4" higher then the front)
Sway
F 26t
R 22S
Purposed 2014 setup
Springs
F 115.5
R 57.2
Sway
F 32S
R 26S (ride height will be 1/2" greater then front)
Alignment for both years will be
F -2.5 Camber +3/16 Toe out
R -1.5 Camber 1/16 toe in
With this setup i can ditch the extra weight from the spare and assembly. I am also striping the interior and removing the headlight assembly's, a/c setup and audio, ect..
I guess i'm wondering if i'm being a jackass by going from what was clearly a working setup for me and trying to improve.
You will notice a big diff with those bars, I did.
Question, are these changes going to change your class? What were your times compared to top time of day, considering cars not carts. Do you run race compound rubber or street rubber?
I agree but trying to find a 17" 275 that's as competitive as the star spec is impossible.
SO im hunting down 2 more 18" wagon wheels and im going to run 4 18x9.5 wagon wheels with the new bfg rivals. I still have some life in the Star specs so this will be a mid season tire change.
Unless your going to run R-comps, good rubber in 275/40/17 does not exist for auto-x. The best three tires the ZII, Rival, and RS3's only come in 255/40/17. You'll need to go to 18's as you noted. I'm in the same boat, however, I'll have to wait till 2015 for the change to 18's. That will give me and my wallet a better feel for how the new rule changes are going to effect things.
I would run more neg camber in the rear but at the height im at the camber is maxed @ -1.5
Im running 17x9.5 on all 4 corners with star spec II @ 255x40 r17
im trying to find another set of wagon wheels so I can run 18x9.5 with 295s
Ill be in the same class as my club is really relaxed.
I was regularly in the top 10 and got ttod on street tires twice
The more I think about it the less I want to change it
Don't change the suspension set up, just get better tires.

All this chating about tires is nice but im still wondering if any of you winning autoxers think i should stay with the stock sways and 84 rear spring or go big sways and 57nm spring?
Ok, first off, what rule set are you operating under? Also, you want street tires or R-comps? I'm guessing street tires.
I'd do your 2014 proposal as presented by you. That 84 Z51 spring is just too stiff as you noted, jacking. Its fairly well documented that the 89 Z51 cars are probably the best handling 17" tired C4's. They are the ones that have WON at SCCA Nationals in Stock class, most recent being in 2009 and 2006.
The good winning street tires for auto-x are pretty much the BFG Rivals, Dunlap Dizzera ZII's, Hankook RS3's, and the some Toyo R1R's. I'd stick with the Rivals or ZII's.
I don't believe the front spring from a 88+ will fit in a 84-87 due to a different front suspension design. Same with front sway bar. The rear springs and sway bars from 84-96 are all interchangeable.
