I just purchased a Hypertech programmer and PowerStat for my 96 LT1. I live in a very hot area of south Idaho, where the summer temps run in the triple didgits rutinely. My LT1 would struggle with this invironment each year running at temps of 220+ during traffic.
Today was different, with the reprgramming and the 160 degree thermostat, the LT1 now runs at 171 degrees with today's temperature of 108. This will save my summer, and untold wear and tear on the LT1 as well.
I can hear the fans kick in around 175, where they used to kick in around 195, plus the air conditioning works very well in this heat.
I just got the hypertech myself this week. Haven't gotten the thermo yet but I would say even with my old thermo (the Programmer is compatible with either and it will still adjust your fans either way) the temp is better stays around 194 all the time unless i sit for long periods it'll come up to 207 max. Also I love the new firmness of the shifts. I am happy with the purchase but then again I got it used for 150. K&N is on the way. I also did the TB bypass which seems to help when it runs real warm now I notice no difference where it used to lose a bit when really warm.
Yes. I am convinced that the car does perform differently with greater response when warmed up.
I went with the "stock" Hypertech programming this time around just to experience Hypertech basics. I can't say that it is truely worth the $300+ asked by Hypertech, but if you can pick one up "used" for lesss its a good investment.
Before you pull it just jack it up and look from underneath at it to see how much is in there. It's pretty simple took me ten minutes to look. I only have 30,000 miles on mine and it was almost as clean as new. One little twig. :D
