What is the difference between a computer controlled camshaft and a non computer controlled camshaft? emissions?
For instance:
Comp cam 268H
dur@.050 218/218 lift .454/. 454
On the Summit website under technical it says:
This camshaft is for carburetor equipped vehicles only.
BUT, it says under application, 350 1967-96
Other brands with the same specs do not say anything about for carburetor vehicles only
Right now I'm in the reasearch stage of my rebuild and trying to get as much info. as I can.
Most computer cams have more center line then the carb, I think the computer cam are from 112 to 117 some go down to 110.
The carb cams are from 106 and up I think most are 108 to 110.
Can a non computer cam with the exact same dur@.050, lift and lobe separation as a computer cam be used in my 85? That's what I'm trying to find out
I would say yes, but tuning can become difficult with tight lobe seperation angles. Idle would probably be the hardest thing to tune if the lsa was much closer that 110-112 degrees. Good luck.
