Default Pick Up Coil

Just joined Corvette Forum and just purchased a pretty strong 1987 C4 but the man that I purchased it from said that it had been idling high and not performing well; as it turns out, the car stopped on me the other day. It will crank but as soon as it's put in gear (automatic), it dies. This happened and have not had time to take it in; I have been told that it sounds like the pick-up coil. Obviously it may need some tuning as well but it ran like a scolded dog until a few days ago. Any help or pointers would be appreciated! Thanks

I had that symptom when my fuel pump failed. Check the fuel pressure at key on, idle and while driving. It should be roughly 40 PSI. If it's more than 10 PSI below that then you have a problem.

I doubt it's the pickup coil. If that were bad it wouldn't run at all.

Yeah...it does sound a little odd that it would be the coil. It started idliing high a few days before it broke down and I also noticed that it wold try to cut out a bit (delay) when hitting the gas from a stopped position like a red light.
