Default Titanium Retainers

Pistons and rods are in so the bottom end is basically complete. I am on to the next step. Comp cams recommended some beehive springs. 26918-16. That seems all well and good but I'm having a hard time deciding on the retainers. Do I "need" titanium? I doubt the engine would see 7k as the cam would probably be all done. Steel retainers for beehives are lighter than standard valves I believe because they are physically smaller so there is a weight savings with them as well. My cam specs are 224 224 568 568 114+4. Surprisingly Comp just gave my the spring part number and no "kit" number. Anybody running a Comp cam beehive kit on their LTx?

You definitely don't need TI retainers for that cam - particularly with beehives. If you want, you could see if Comp's tool steel retainers are available in the right size for your springs. They're lighter than standard steel retainers, heavier than TI, fall somewhere in the middle on price.

I agree with Mark, the bee hive retainers are a lot smaller than a standard spring so the weight saveings is not that much. It also does not look like you are gonna be pushing the spring hard at all unless you have some kind of stupid heavy valve.
